Ongoing MJAC life drawing sessions are untutored, with a model provided each week and facilitated by Carolyn Francis. Newcomers welcome!

MJAC provides a model, easels and boards. Tea and coffee provided. Bring your own drawing materials and paper.

Purchase a 5 session workshop pass and collect your card when you attend your first life drawing session to be punched off each week you attend. Workshop passes are valid for 6 months. These sessions are casual and bookings week to week are not required. 

Want to try before you buy? You can purchase a single session pass for $20 directly from the facilitator. Simply turn up at the session to pay and give it a go!

Venture into the world of acrylic painting in this six week course with West Australian artist and painting lecturer Fiona Harman. Easily one of the most affordable and versatile painting mediums, this beginner’s class will tutor you through the basics of acrylic paint, brushes & mediums. Fiona will develop your painting skills through activities in abstraction, still life, landscape, self-portraiture and the figure, with a final studio class to bring it all together. This is the perfect workshop for beginners and those who wish to experiment with painting outside of their usual comfort zone.

Clay Birdhouses with Lee Woodcock

Local ceramicist Lee Woodcock will be showing us how to hand-build our very own clay birdhouse. With four walls, a roof and a little perch to sit on, this cosy home can be hung from a tree in your backyard. We’ll be using leaves and flowers from the garden to imprint and colourful clay slips to decorate. All materials and firing included.

Hand-Printed Plants with Carly Lynch

Create prints and a zine in this exciting flora-inspired school holiday workshop with Carly Lynch. You will also get to make a mini-zine (book) that you can use as to print all your plants when you get home.

Painting Wildlife with Jae Criddle

Thursday’s Art Club invites you to get to know some of the animals on our State’s Threatened Species List in this painting workshop with artist and Illustrator Jae Criddle. Jae will show you how to draw and paint a range of interesting animals such as Blue Whales, Bilbies, Quokkas, Hairy Marron, White-bellied Frogs and Black-footed Tree-rats. Paint, pencils, and cartridge paper will be provided.

Community Canvas with Deborah Bonar-Mills

Join artist Deborah Bonar-Mills at Midland Junction Arts Centre during the Danjoo-Interwoven exhibition to help create a community canvas. Deborah will invite children and community members to contribute to a community canvas by adding to the overall design of the artwork. Visit MJAC and see Deborah’s work on display along with artworks by eighteen Aboriginal artists from the South West of WA.

This community activity will coincide with the Cale St Festival, Midland that runs from 2 – 8pm.

Postcards from the Sea Workshop with Linda James

Join Danjoo - Interwoven artist Linda James, a Bardi woman from the Dampier Peninsula, North of Broome. Learn about Linda’s Aboriginal culture through her artwork and her stories about fishing and living off the sea. Paint shells and sea creatures on postcard sized paper employing Linda’s fine brush technique. Discover how to prepare the background, create texture, apply a stencil and then add detail using a very fine brush.

Enjoy learning this simple, yet dynamic and unique style of painting in a relaxed friendly format from one of Australia’s most respected leading Nyoongar / Yammatji artists.

Tjyllyungoo / Lance Chadd’s works are exhibited throughout the world including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Berndt Museum Collection and Parliament House.

Oil Painting with Harrison See

Over 4 weeks Harrison will guide you through the process of creating and reworking a series of ‘painted studies’ on board. Each week you will use oils to interpret and express different subject matter; including landscapes, figures and abstract elements. Using a variety of techniques, Harrison will discuss and demonstrate the importance of mark-making, colour, composition and generating emphasis within a work. Towards the end of this series, you will then have the opportunity to apply what you have learned to a final larger painting. This workshop is focused on experimenting with painting approaches and will offer something to both beginners and experienced painters.
