ABOUT WORN OUT WORN ART
For over 14 years Mundaring Arts Centre Inc. has coordinated the Worn Out Worn Art (WOWA) parade captivating audiences and showcasing wearable costume designs by local primary and secondary school students, in a celebration of creative thinking and environmental consciousness.
Previously held at the annual Darlington Arts Festival, the performance was held for the first time in 2018 at Midland Junction Arts Centre and welcomed school students and adults to participate in this celebration of wearable art for the body.
In the lead up to the parade, workshops are held for children and adults to customise recycled materials and upcycle clothing to reconnect with ‘lost skills’. Working with industry professionals including designers, makers and artists, workshops explore fabric manipulation techniques, clothing deconstruction/reconstruction and sculptural forms using all using recycled, upcycled and repurposed materials.
