Adrienne Kenafake Bury Me in Hi Vis

Adrienne Kenafake is a visual artist from the Gold Coast, Queensland. Her arts practice pushes the boundaries of sculpture, collage, textiles and drawing to showcase the Australian landscape. Exploring borders, boundaries and nominal notions associated with these themes, Adrienne drives her interpretation of environments beyond her home at Southport on the Gold Coast.

DUPLEX is a two part project that comprises a residency at the Midland Junction Arts Centre and a residency at Eleventh Avenue Creative in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. Generated by Adrienne’s long term interest in paranormal science and anthropology, DUPLEX places an emphasis on the estrangement of the familiar and explores the relationship between traumatic impressions of the past and feelings of discontent in everyday places and objects.

In parallel, DUPLEX explores the uncanny similarities between suburban environments on opposing sides of the country, concentrating on the conceptual development and physical construction of Satellite Place, a multi-sensory installation with sculptural and performance elements and an associated photographic series. During the Midland Junction Arts Centre residency stage of this project, Adrienne will be collecting photographs, objects, experiences and videos of suburban areas.
