Book Builders Challenge: Young Creators Studio Program

ABOUT
Book Builders Challenge invites children aged 8–12 to participate in a 10 week series of writing workshops. Participants will collaborate with WA creatives to create an anthology exploring bravery through stories, poems, comics and art, culminating in a community book launch. Funded by the WA Government, the program builds confidence, creativity, connection and wellbeing.

Curated by award-winning author, educator and independent publisher Kristy Nita Brown, Book Builders Challenge brings together some of Western Australia’s leading authors, illustrators and creatives, including Kylie Howarth, Gabriel Evans, HM Waugh, Ash Harrier, Alison Mutton and other special guests.

Young people in Midland and Mundaring will soon have access to a new fully funded after-school writing and publishing program, with Book Builders Challenge: Young Creators Studio launching from August. Created by award-winning author and creative entrepreneur Kristy Nita Brown, the program will give participants aged 8-12 the chance to develop writing, illustration and publishing skills while creating their own professionally printed anthology.
Participants will work together to produce a professionally printed anthology on the theme of bravery, featuring forms such as short stories, comic strips, poems, song lyrics, photographs and illustrations. Each program will conclude with a youth-led celebration event where participants will launch the anthology and share their work with family and community members.
