IN SEARCH OF NUREYEV
THE SEARCH OF AN IMMIGRANT FOR HIS REAL IDENTITY

Writer, Director, Choreographer, Actor & Dancer Ivan Tarakanov, with Composer & Producer Valery Niazov, Mentoring Director Susie Conte, and Dancer &Actor Sergey Pevnev develop their production In search of Nureyev: The search of an immigrant for his real identity.

In search of Nureyev is based on the life of dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev. Nureyev was born on the Trans-Siberian railway and raised in a poor country village of the USSR, and later became one of the most renowned artists and influential people of his time.

60 years after Nureyev left the USSR, this production will juxtapose two different époques, incorporating archival footage of Nureyev with dramatic sequences, monologues, classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Principal dancer, writer, choreographer and director Ivan Tarakanov’s story draws parallels with that of Nureyev.

“To trace the life of R. Nureyev is a chance for me to rediscover myself: we studied in the same school, my teacher was a student of his teacher, we danced on the same stage, shared the same roles, and had to choose between our motherland and our passion.”
