CURATED BY CANDICE NANNUP
Cjoowak Moordidjabiny - Generations Becoming Stronger showcases Yamaji and Noongar women artists working with textiles and fibres. Through weaving, stitching and dyeing, their works carry stories of ancestry, resilience and connection to Country — celebrating fibres as a powerful medium of memory, creativity and cultural strength across generations.
CURATOR BIOGRAPHY
Candice Nannup is a Willman, Ballardong Noongar emerging curator and artist based on Wardandi Boodja. Currently serving as the Noongar Country Curator at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery (2025–2027), their curatorial practice is deeply rooted in cultural storytelling, community engagement, and the celebration of Noongar art and identity.
With a background in visual arts and textile experimentation, Nannup has explored the intersection of art and fashion, co-producing the inaugural Noongar Arts Program Fashion Show in 2024, and curating the landmark 25th Noongar Country Exhibition in 2025. Their commitment to elevating First Nations creative voices extends to exhibition development, programming and mentorship within the Noongar arts community. This includes creating youth and community workshops to upskill and build the capacity of artists, developing platforms and spaces to raise the profiles of practicing artists.
Through both curatorial and artistic practice, Nannup is dedicated to fostering spaces that honour Noongar heritage, whilst pushing the boundaries of contemporary Indigenous art.
Nannup is supported by the MAC Inc. Curatorial Mentorship Program as the inaugural emerging curator and is a current participant of the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) Noongar Country Curator Mentorship Program (2025-2027). Nannup was nominated to curate for MAC Inc. through her mentor, First Nations curator, writer and researcher, Michelle Broun.
MAC Inc. and BRAG are funded by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
