Known today for its beautiful indigo hues, Cyanotype was a photo process developed in the late 1800s and used by the first woman photographer, Anna Atkins. Riso Print Gocco with Ingrid Mulder

Join Ingrid Mulder from Crow Mountain Paper for this exciting and rare introduction to Riso Print Gocco.

Gocco or Print Gocco is a self-contained compact color riso printing system invented in 1977 in Japan by Noboru Hayama. An accessible and domestic version of screen printing, in the 80s it was estimated that one-third of Japanese households owned a Print Gocco system. The Gocco sets included the materials and tools to both make and print the screens, and were commonly used for printing personalised New Year’s cards and stationery.

In this three-week evening course you will create your own series of postcard size Gocco prints in both one colour and multi-colour editions. Drawing from your own designs, you may choose to make an editioned set of fine art prints or greeting cards with options to print on fabric. This course includes paper, as well as 6 sets of Gocco screens and bulbs per student. 

Having been a servicer and supplier of Print Gocco systems in Japan for over 8 years, Ingrid has a wealth of knowledge to impart on new students.

Paper Lithography is an exciting, simple and non-toxic way of utilising your photographs and adding photographic elements to your existing prints. Discover Drypoint with Marina Van Leeuwen

Discover how you can use Drypoint printmaking to create beautiful, detailed prints using everyday materials with Marina Van Leeuwen. Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking method likened to using a pen without the ink in which you draw with a dry point onto a flat surface or plate which is then inked and printed.

In this two week evening course, you will learn to use non-toxic drypoint methods with plates from both commercial polyethylene plastic and household materials (milk cartons, juice containers and cardboard). Processes covered in this course can be easily replicated at home. Suitable for beginner’s and artists looking to extend their knowledge.

Papermaking Weekend Intensive with Ingrid Mulder

Discover the rich tradition of hand papermaking with Ingrid Mulder of Crow Mountain Paper. In this 2-day intensive weekend workshop you’ll transform an old pair of old jeans or a worn out piece of cotton clothing to recycle into beautiful rag paper that can be used for printing, stationary, book binding, cards or to be framed.

Over the course of the weekend you will learn to prepare cotton rag and recycled paper into pulp for papermaking, using Ingrid’s Hollander beater. In addition to preparation and properties of pulp you will learn the basics of papermaking including traditional western and eastern sheet forming, moulds and deckles, pressing, drying and decorative effects. There will be a selection of decorative inclusions available but you may like to bring your own text, string, thread, pressed flat dried flowers, fine fabric or similar to include in your paper.

Having studied and worked at the Washi no Sato Papermaking factory in Japan for over 12 years, Ingrid has a wealth of paper making expertise to impart on new students.

Wood Lithography with Monika Lukowska

Wood Lithography or Mokulito is a form of printmaking based on principles of lithography, using wood ply as a printing matrix instead of limestone. In this workshop, you will learn how to prepare the wood, create an image using variety of tools and then printing your plate on an etching press. It is an easy and chemical free method of lithography that allows you to create gestural, multicolour prints. You will also have an opportunity to experiment with combing mokulito with woodcut and monotype. 

Monika is a printmaking artist and academic from Poland currently based in Perth, Western Australia. She works as a sessional academic and research assistant at Curtin University, is a Print Council of Australia Representative for Western Australia and a co-founder of Print Lab Australia.
