“Whenever mum braids my hair, we talk about life and share stories together.”

Akanni’s practice involves sharing creative knowledge and skills through community art workshops for children, young people and families. Meeting and connecting with a diverse range of cross-disciplinary creatives invites conversation and the opportunity to learn about different cultures.

In this hands-on fibre art workshop, combine the splendour of unspun wool fibres with the structural integrity of coiling techniques, to create a vessel. After the coiling is complete, use the ancient art of felting to transform the works into firm, sculptural forms. Other applications for this wonderous combo of techniques will also be shown, to provide inspiration for future projects.

Using the techniques of drypoint and chine-collé, explore diverse ways of representing landscape. Experimenting with linear drawings, gestural marks, colour, layers and collage methods create multilayered unique prints using an etching press.

A Convergence of Visual Art, Poetry, Voice and Film

The launch of Tracing Gondwana, in partnership with Gondwana Link, celebrates the ancient landscapes of the Great Southern – one of the richest Biodiversity Hotspots on the planet. A collaboration between printmakers Nikki Green, Monika Lukowska and writer Reneé Pettitt-Schipp, has resulted in a body of work responding to the current climate emergency. A series of events will complement the opening and build awareness of the area’s ecological and cultural vulnerability.

Neeve will share the story behind it and present a reading of the book before guiding attendees in creating a piece of Western Swamp Tortoise inspired artwork of their own, from simple colouring in or dot-to-dot page to more elaborate free hand drawings.

Come on a nature treasure hunt during wildflower season with Cathy Levett and learn about biodiversity in backyards, different critters, and what they need to survive. Ever wanted to dye your very own t-shirt and bag? Learn the basics of Procion dyeing on cotton in this colourful workshop. Helen will guide you through basic fabric printing and colour mixing with thickened dyes. Make your own fabric stamp and combine it with graffiti style marks in coloured dyes for a unique, one-of-a-kind look on a t-shirt and bag.
