Braiding Memories
Collaborators: Dorothy (Dottie) Giattas and Imara Mandred
Braiding Memories is an intergenerational research project led by artist Annick Akanni, exploring the profound bond between Annick and her Tanzanian mother, Dottie. Through the art of braiding, they weave together Australian and African cultures, delving into self-discovery. This transformative project celebrates the interconnection of African traditions and the cherished memories of strong women, with Dottie as the central figure. It pays homage to pioneering matriarchs, exploring themes of identity, tenderness, togetherness, and belonging. Join us on this journey of family, culture, and cherished memories, challenging boundaries and embracing intergenerational connections.
