A new digital CoLab Studio will open at Midland Junction Arts Centre in September thanks to a Lotterywest grant.

The CoLab Studio at Midland Junction Arts Centre will be a one-stop digital hub for creatives. Artists, photographers, filmmakers, animators and media students, will have a space to collaborate and give life to innovative ideas. With a range of recording equipment, computers and editing software available, the CoLab Studio provides the tools to explore digital technology and invite creative connections, providing the ideal backdrop for an exciting new evolution of public programs and workshops in Perth’s eastern region.

To launch the CoLab Studio, Midland Junction Arts Centre invites creatives interested in digital technology as an artistic medium to submit an EOI for the inaugural digital workshop program. This program, Capture and Create with Digital Media, will be facilitated by renowned creative director, artist and musician Steven Alyian and delivered in three modules from September to November.

CAPTURE AND CREATE WITH DIGITAL MEDIA

Artists and creatives of all backgrounds are invited to express their interest in this subsidised series of eight digital media workshops, facilitated by multimedia artist Steven Alyian. Working across immersive AV installation, documentary and spatial sound, Steven’s work has featured with SBS, ABC, the WA Museum and State Library of WA, alongside performance projects including Injured Ninja and Selfless Orchestra.

Applicants can nominate to undertake all three modules or select individual modules spanning photography, videography and editing. Using their own digital tools and computers, film equipment and software available in the CoLab studio, participants will learn how to document, capture and present their artwork digitally. Designed for artists and students 18+ at any stage of their career wanting to introduce a digital toolkit to their creative practice.

Sessions will run Saturdays from 10am – 12:30pm with a short break in the middle.

Video Editing (Module C)

Sat 7 Nov: Editing for Video Part One – Setup and Rough Cutting
Sat 14 Nov: Editing for Video Part Two – Refinement and Advanced Techniques
Sat 21 Nov: Sound Editing, Colour Grading and Publishing Your Work

MATERIALS

Participants are encouraged to bring a personal SD card and/or storage devices, and may choose to bring their own camera, laptop, tablet or other device. CoLab Studio resources (including computers and monitors, film and recording equipment, and editing software) will be available for participants to use during workshop sessions.
