WHERE DO WE TRULY BELONG?
During their residency, Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli and Kasia Kolikow will be developing further works for their upcoming exhibition of the same title, Where Do We Truly Belong?.
Ben-Dzulkefli and Kolikow address states of belonging as a sense of connection, acceptance, and the multi-layered experiences within spaces and communities. Sense of home and belonging are ever-evolving, shaped by experiences, relationships, and the ever-evolving landscapes of our lives. Through weaving and unfolding personal narratives into and onto objects they aim to capture the essence of this journey and what it means to truly belong.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli creates ceramic objects that sit in the intersection of ritual tools, markers for sacred sites and monuments for the safe-keeping of stories and memories. Through these objects, Ben-Dzulkefli discusses his connection to his family, ancestors, tutelary spirits and mythical beings of his homeland, and how they are forever linked to his new found home in Perth via the vast water body that connects Australia to the Malay Archipelago. In 2022, Ben-Dzulkefli was selected to exhibit in Hatched and has since continued to exhibit in Perth and Singapore. His works are held in the North Metropolitan TAFE collection and private collections in Singapore and Perth.
