Artists’ Statement

Maali Deadly Yorgas and Gynning Yorgas represent a culturally safe gathering of First Nations women focused on cultural continuity, healing, and mutual empowerment. These community-led networks function as vital spaces where intergenerational knowledge is shared, advocacy is organised, and systemic challenges are addressed through self-determination. Our women's groups are safe spaces to pass down traditional practices; such as weaving, art, and storytelling, maintain connections to Country, and build cultural pride among younger generations. We also utilise these groups as a platform to amplify First Nation's women's voices, elevating our representation in policy-making, governance, and the socio-economic betterment of our local communities. We are all leaders and together we are stronger.
