Expressive Drawing in the Built Environment with Ben Joel

  • Midland Junction Arts Centre 276 Great Eastern Highway Midland, WA, 6056 Australia (map)

Join Ben Joel for guided drawing adventures around the Old Midland Railway Workshops. These iconic buildings and their surrounds present a wonderful opportunity to explore inventive drawing of built form, and in the process to learn new skills and refine existing ones. Working both en-plein air and from photos taken on site, Ben will help develop your confidence in expressive options for drawing convincing freehand structures and spaces over three weeks. We will meet for these sessions at the Midland Junction Arts Centre before moving to the Railway Workshops site.

Bring your own favourite drawing gear. Paper, drawing boards and clips provided. Closed-in shoes, sunscreen and a hat are advised.

Ben Joel is primarily a painter who has a wide range of interests and expertise in traditional and contemporary processes. He has a PhD from Curtin University, where from 1989 to 2008 he was the Head of Painting. See more of Ben’s work here.
