Work independently, either bringing along your latest project or draw inspiration from the provided still life props, mannequins and reference images.

Easels, donkeys, furniture and boards are provided. BYO supports, paper and other consumable materials. This is an untutored drop in session, no bookings required and newcomers always welcome.

Working in your preferred painting medium and subject at your own pace, Drewfus will provide individual technical guidance. Working on one or multiple pieces over the eight weeks you'll gain a greater understanding of light, reflections, colour mixing and brushwork in your choice of oils, acrylic, watercolour or pastels.  

This workshop is suitable for beginner painters or those looking for technical guidance. BYO reference material or work from our provided still life props, mannequins, or images.

Paint and resolve a large oil painting in this four week course with Harrison See. Harrison will guide you create your own painting from start to finish, with a focus on colour palette, tonal range and depth to create a harmonious and resolved composition. Participants are asked to bring a variety of reference imagery to explore ideas and practice techniques through smaller painted studies. Suitable for beginners and artists looking to extend their knowledge.

All materials such as oil paints, brushes, boards, mediums and solvents will be supplied. Please bring an apron and wear closed in shoes.

Harrison See is an emerging artist, educator and PhD candidate based in Perth, WA. He has held numerous solo exhibitions both locally and in Asia, is a New Colombo Plan Alumni as well as the recipient of a Research Training Program Scholarship and the Louise Macfie Painting Prize. Expressive Painting with Ryan Ahern

Learn the traditional methods for oil painting the human figure in this two week workshop with Ryan Ahern. You’ll be introduced to the properties of oil paint whilst learning to render the human form in an expressive style, working from a life model and dramatic sets of light. This workshop will be sure to cover methodology such as the fat-over-lean rule, fugitive pigments, identifying the properties of different mediums (turps, oms, linseed, liquin etc) and colour mixing as well as best practice for ensuring your paintings are archival quality. Suitable for beginners and artists looking to refresh their knowledge. This course is Part 2 in Ryan’s latest figurative series, progressing from Part 1: Expressive Sketching. Completing Part 1 is suggested prior to commencing this workshop however, it is not a prerequisite.

Ryan is a West Australian figurative painter, life drawing instructor and former Artist-in-Residence at the Midland Junction Arts Centre. His work is styled on 20th century impressionism and subdued realism and can be found in a variety of private collections and in public exhibitions. Explore the traditional tools and techniques of sign painting in this half day workshop with Luke O’Donohoe. We'll start with a walk around the Midland CBD to identify and photograph hand painted signs before settling in again at the Midland Junction Arts Centre to get started on your own sign painting. You’ll be sure to learn the basics including sign paint, brushwork, typography, alphabet practice sheets, composition and pouncing.

Bernard has been an artist and educator for over 40 years, working in ceramics, sculpture and painting in Perth, Indonesia and Melbourne.
