MJAC Open Studios Day invites you to immerse yourself in the creative heart of Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC).

Browse the galleries and artist’s studios while discovering their stories, creative processes, and the work they have created while working in residence,

For those who have never been to MJAC before, it is also an opportunity to see the historic site that has been continuously occupied as a place of learning since 1895. You can wander through the vibrant venue and experience why this site has such as special place in the history and culture of the Swan region.

To complete the experience, there is also a chance to get your Christmas shopping done early with our new MJAC Shop being open for those eager to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces crafted by local artisans.

Immerse yourself in a diverse program featuring talented artists Martien van Zuilen, Persie Toindepi, and Gok-Lim Finch. Experience the captivating Animalium exhibition, where artists with disability and/or lived experience of mental illness explore the relationships and understanding of animals through traditional artforms and digital media. Interact with talented artists and creatives during a captivating day of artistic expression and connection at Midland Junction Arts Centre.

Using the techniques of drypoint and chine-collé, explore diverse ways of representing landscape. Experimenting with linear drawings, gestural marks, colour, layers and collage methods create multilayered unique prints using an etching press.

Explore the versatility of screenprinting and repurposed fabrics in this half-day workshop with Extricate artist Isaac Huggins. Make your own unique stencil design to enhance your fabric or clothing or use one of Isaac's pre-made paper stencils as you explore various silkscreen techniques, including paper-stencil printing, layering, how to achieve colour blending/gradients and the benefits of under-painting and post-print embellishments.

In this two-part workshop, Extricate artist Jane Button will introduce you to a variety of tools and printing plates, giving you the opportunity to try a number of accessible presses and printing methods. Suitable for both beginners wanting to learn a new medium and set up a home studio, and experienced artists wishing to extend their practice by incorporating new materials and equipment.

Disability and Vision Awareness Training and Tactile Tour

Join Extricate artists and DADAA in a disability and vision awareness training session that includes a range of theory and interactive activities. In the session, you will learn the characteristics of different disabilities and effective communication strategies. 

DADAA's guide will then demonstrate tactile tour principles and techniques while you discover new ways of interacting with and experiencing the Extricate artforms on show at Mundaring Arts Centre.
