Using solid-coloured quilters cottons, you will learn how to stitch an assortment of pieced prints including stripes, tracks, dots, and grids. Kintsugi: Tiles for Hope | Mental Health Week

As part of Mental Health Week, we are delighted to present; Kintsugi: "Tiles for Hope.''

This 2.5hr workshop is designed to inspire participants to empower themselves in a safe and supportive environment. Allow oneself to be seen, heard and embrace their authentic self while exploring the art of Kinstugi. This ancient technique is a powerful metaphor for healing.

Facilitator: Ania Gett-Skibinska is an experienced peer supporter with a deep focus on work overcoming sadness, grief and a passion to journey towards finding happiness and peace in life.

This workshop will tap into childhood dreams and express these desires through an altered process of Kinsugi. Participants will be guided through the practice and philosophy of the ancient artform to embrace life’s challenges, cultivate resilience and transform through Kintsugi.

Hey kids!

Ever wanted to make your very own gift cards, envelopes, and bound sketch book? Then look no further, because talented WA Printmaker, Kristy Scaddan is ready to help guide you through the steps. In this three-hour printmaking and bookbinding workshop you will experiment with natural forms like feathers, leaves, plants and flowers to create unique stationary to take home. 

Artist Kristy Scaddan completed her Bachelor of Contemporary Arts at Edith Cowan University in 2021 and is currently a finalist in the Fremantle Arts Centre 2023 Print Awards. Kristy uses the Midland Junction Arts Centre printmaking studio to create her exhibition work which is almost always based around our natural world and the West Australian landscape.

Artist Bios:

Peter Dailey: Influenced by magic realism, Dailey reimagines everyday objects through his art. A Claremont School of Art graduate, he has showcased his work globally, earning various accolades. With over 20 commissions under his belt, Dailey's works grace esteemed collections throughout Australia. 

Beverley Iles: A Curtin University Fine Arts alumna, Iles explores belonging and place using distinct materials. Her pieces spotlight both personal and industrial vulnerabilities. Exhibited broadly, Iles enjoys widespread recognition and has garnered significant awards

Sherylle Dovaston: From the UK to Australia, Dovaston's art, influenced by Western Australia's landscapes and her humanities background, explores human connections and self-discovery. As a Fine Arts student at Curtin University, her works grace both local and international collections. 

Facilitator: Ashley Yihsin Chang: Born in Taiwan and educated at the University of Essex, UK, Chang has 25 years as an art curator in Taiwan and Western Australia. A passionate advocate for cultural diplomacy, she believes art fosters social inclusion and honours heritage. 

The artist studios are situated in the Woodbridge and Guildford areas. Kindly arrange your own transportation.

Learn to use a pottery wheel with local ceramicist Robyn Sinclair. Open to both beginner or intermediate potters, you’ll learn to centre a ball of clay on the wheel in motion and form bowls, mugs or plates, adding handles, glaze and other decorative elements. Intermediate potters will learn to work with larger amounts of clay, creating more challenging forms as well as techniques for producing sets of ceramic vessels. There are only eight spots in each timeslot so book early to secure your place.

This course includes a bisque and glaze firing with work ready for collection 3-4 weeks after final class. Tools and 1/2 x 10kg bag of clay will be provided per student. Please wear closed in shoes. One left-handed wheel available.

The KISS Club asks five artists to present 10 minutes of a work in progress to an audience, providing a chance to trial a new idea and receive immediate feedback, with you, the audience gaining access to a dynamic arts experience. It can be anything, so long as it needs an audience. KISS Club celebrates works in progress, giving audiences fresh insight into what is bubbling in the hearts and minds of Perth’s experimental performance makers, and the opportunity to help shape and support new work. It books out every year, so don’t miss out!

Created by Sydney based artist Karen Therese, KISS club has been presented by tactical media group pvi collective since 2012, in partnership with PICA from 2017 to 2020, and evolving into a KickstART edition last year. In 2023, KISS club is a collaboration between Propel Youth Arts, Midland Junction Arts and pvi collective.

Printing landscapes – Dry point and Chine-collé with Monika Lukowska

Using the techniques of drypoint and chine-collé, explore diverse ways of representing landscape. Experimenting with linear drawings, gestural marks, colour, layers and collage methods create multilayered unique prints using an etching press.
